Easy Strawberry Basil Cocktail

Easy Strawberry Basil Cocktail

It’s getting hot outside and you need something to cool you down! How about a Strawberry Basil Cocktail?! I’ve never been big on alcohol, but I like to sip on a little somethin’, somethin’ every now and then. Especially because I have a husband who’s really into spirits. So much so, he recently started a podcast, Narratives Over Wine and Whiskey (Narr.o.w.).

He talks about a wide variety of topics, but as you might be able to guess he also talks about his favorite ABC store finds! It’s not often that we work together, but quarantine gave us a reason to do so. Not to mention, we knew you needed a new summer bevy, so here ya go! We’re calling it the ‘Brown Berry Basil.’

How to Make a Strawberry Basil Drink

When we came up with the recipe for this Strawberry Basil Cocktail, it was important to us that this drink be made easily. No fancy tools or equipment, just a few things you likely already have at home. Making this Strawberry Basil Cocktail was so simple. With just a few ingredients you’ll be summer sippin’ in no time! All you need to do is add all of the ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until just combined.

The end result might remind you of a slightly less icy spiked slushy depending on how long you mix it for in the blender. The taste however will be sweet from the strawberries, a hint of tang from the lemon and a bit of freshness from the basil. What’s not to love?

Wanna know my favorite part about this drink? It’s #PickyAssHusbandApproved! You may have guessed that it would be since we worked on it together. Because I’m not a big drinker and I usually prefer sweeter cocktails it’s rare that we actually like the same drink. However, this one works for the both of us!

Which Type of Bourbon Works Best?

I’m no bourbon connoisseur, but my husband is so I asked him. If you want a good quality drink, you have to use quality bourbon. For this particular drink, we used Four Roses Bourbon, which is vegan-friendly!

As a person who doesn’t really care for the taste of alcohol, I could barely taste its presence in the drink! It’s not too strong or overpowering, which makes it a perfect fit for me. If you’re interested in a more pronounced taste, you can always add in another shot (or two… or three). It’s up to you!

Bourbon wasn’t our original choice, as we experimented with a few other spirits we thought would go well with this combination. None of them tasted as good as the bourbon. We decided on this whiskey, because bourbon is actually native to the United States, making it pretty common to find and also customize (bourbon is a type of whiskey). So if you have a favorite brand that’s not flavored, you can definitely use it here!

I know you’ll love this Strawberry Basil Cocktail ! It’s fruity with a hint of basil, a splash of lemon with a little bourbon to set it off. Give this Strawberry Basil Cocktail recipe a try and let me know what you think of it in the comments below!

I’m particular about alcohol, especially bourbon, so I used my favorite sipping expression in this recipe and it’s so good. Hard to come by a refreshing bourbon cocktail but this is it!
