Easy Vegan Brownies (Moist & Fudgy!) [+VIDEO]

I have been dying to share an easy vegan brownie recipe on this blog for years and I am so happy that the day has finally come! This recipe is the best fudgy, moist, delicious, vegan brownie recipe on the internet and after you make it you’ll see why! With just 10 ingredients you’ll be able to create vegan brownies that will without a doubt have you going back for seconds and wanting to share with all of your friends and family!

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Vegan Brownies:

  • Ground Flaxseed Meal – you’ll use this to combine with water to create a flax egg in place of a real egg.
  • All- Purpose Flour – for this recipe, I haven’t experimented with any other flours outside of all-purpose. However, you may find luck making this with a high-quality gluten-free flour if you’re hoping to make gluten-free vegan brownies.
  • Cocoa powder – since chocolate is the star of the show here, it’s important to use a high-quality cocoa powder. I typically purchase mine from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.
  • Organic Cane Sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Instant coffee powder – this ingredient may seem strange, but it actually helps to accentuate the chocolate flavor!
  • Dairy Free Chocolate Chips – I enjoy using semi-sweet chocolate chips, but if you like dark chocolate most, you can substitute with the variety of your choice.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Vegan butter – no vegan butter? Feel free to substitute with a neutral oil of your choice like vegetable oil.
  • Unsweetened almond milk – for this recipe you can substitute with most any unsweetened plant milk of your choice (soy, oat, rice milk…etc)
  • salt flakes (optional)

How to Make Vegan Brownies:

To make these vegan brownies you’ll want to start by gathering up all of your ingredients. There’s nothing worse than starting a recipe only to realize that you’re missing a thing or two! Preheat your oven to 350°, then start by preparing your flax egg. To do this, simply combine two tablespoons of ground flaxseed meal with 5 tablespoons of water. Stir It together and set aside.

While you’re flax egg is thickening, add all the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl. This includes your all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, salt, and instant coffee powder. Give these a good stir to combine, then add in all of your wet ingredients to the same mixing bowl (melted dairy-free chocolate chips, vanilla extract, vegan butter, and unsweetened almond milk.

It’s important to note that the dairy-free chocolate chips are divided in this recipe, meaning that you will use half of a cup to melt and add to the batter, and then the other half will be used to stir into the batter. Use a rubber spatula to combine the wet and dry ingredients until everything is fully incorporated, then stir in the remaining chocolate chip pieces.

Grab an 8×8 baking dish and line it with parchment paper so that you can easily remove your vegan brownies once they’re finished baking. If you don’t have any parchment paper you can also generously spray the inside of your baking dish with a neutral oil then add the batter. Transfer the baking dish to the oven and allow the vegan brownies to cook for 40 – 45 minutes or until a toothpick can be inserted and removed clean.

Once your vegan brownies are done baking, remove the dish from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan before slicing or enjoying. This will ensure that your vegan brownies don’t fall apart and are able to hold their shape. If you’d like, you can also sprinkle your vegan brownies with salt flakes to accentuate the flavor. However, if you don’t have any salt flakes these vegan brownies will most certainly hold their own without!

Once you’ve noticed that your vegan brownies have cooled, use the sides of the parchment paper that are sticking up to retrieve the brownies from the baking dish and set aside. Cut the brownies into the size of your choice and enjoy!

Tips for Making the Best Vegan Brownies:

  • Don’t over-mix the batter – over-mixing the batter could change the texture of the final product.
  • Use parchment paper for easy removal – without parchment paper you could be left scraping brownie bits out of the baking dish. To avoid this, use parchment paper so that you can easily pull the vegan brownies out of the baking dish and onto the counter to cut.
  • Let your brownies cool – I know it’s tempting to devour your brownies immediately after removing them from the oven, but you may want to let them cool prior to doing so. This will give the brownies a chance to set and avoids them falling apart immediately.
