Some of my favorite meals to prepare happen to be ones with simple ingredients, minimal prep, and of course amazing flavor! If you’re shaking your head in agreement with me, you’re in luck! I’ve got another mouthwatering recipe that you’ll want to make tonight! This Vegan Honey Butter Garlic Chicken is a winner and I know your friends and family will love it too!
Veganizing a Traditionally Non-Vegan Recipe:
By now you may be wondering how in the world I’ve managed to veganize a meal with descriptors that are totally non-vegan. Well first, I’ve swapped traditional honey for agave. If you’re new to the vegan/plant-based world, you may not be familiar with it (I wasn’t either).
However, in most cases it makes for a great substitute. Like honey, agave is sweet in flavor and has a similar consistency. I’ve been able to find it at most grocery stores. As for the butter, I use a plant-based alternative as well. My husband who is non-vegan enjoys it as much as I do!
Last but not least is the chicken. I knew that if I was going to successfully pull off this meal, I would need to find a legit chicken substitute. These days, there are tons of new vegan meat substitute offerings available to consumers, but I’m so glad I chose the Mindful Chik’n Strips from Sweet Earth Foods! Not only are they vegan, they’re free from GMOs, hormones, antibiotics, and fats. You can find them at the following stores:
- Hyvee
- Giant Eagle
- Heinens
- Stop N Shop
- Giant Martins
- Giant Foods
- Hannaford
- Heb (December)
- Meijer (Dec/Jan)
What’s cool about this Mindful Chik’n is that it’s ready to go whether it’s been refrigerated or frozen! Yep, you read that right. When I was testing this recipe, I initially planned to remove them from the freezer and place them in the fridge the night before. Unfortunately I forgot, so I decided to move forward with the recipe testing with the chik’n in its frozen state. I’m happy to report that it was a success!
Preparing the Vegan Honey Butter Garlic Chicken:
This Vegan Honey Butter Garlic Chicken is ready in under 30 minutes. Because the cooking process moves so quickly, I would recommend having all of the ingredients measured out ahead of time. This way you’re prepared!
As you can see from the recipe card, the process is pretty straightforward. You’ll begin with sautéing the garlic over medium-low heat, then adding in the agave and Mindful Chik’n. This step is followed by adding in the remaining ingredients, some peppers, and before you know it you’re ready to eat!
Whenever I look at these pictures, I always swoon over how lovely the Mindful Chik’n browned with the caramelized sauce. Interested in the same results? The trick to this is to remember it’s necessary to increase the heat when adding in the sauce ingredients after sauteing the garlic. The increased temperature allows the sauce to thicken and the Chik’n to brown. I also made this in a cast-iron skillet which is perfect for recipes like these!
Also, if you’re planning to pair this Vegan Honey Butter Garlic Chicken with rice (try this easy fried rice!) I would recommend making it ahead of time or before you start making this recipe. You’ll definitely thank yourself for it later! After you’re done preparing this meal you’ll want to devour it STAT!

I am from Germany and was wondering what I could Substitute the chik’n for as we don’t have it here
Hey Patty, is there another vegan chicken brand that’s available to you that you could use instead?

Thanks LaKita! You should definitely try this recipe. It’s so quick, easy, and flavorful!
Oh my GOD. This is so so so good and it’s ridiculous how easy it is!! I used the No Evil “no chicken” for my seitan and it was really good. I loved the texture of the seitan after the sauce cooked down and coated it. It would be super easy to change up the veggies here or to make this with extra firm tofu, too! Non-vegan husband approved so you know it’s super good!! 🙌🏾
Thanks so much Jenna! I agree, extra firm tofu would work great here! So glad you and the hubby enjoyed it.
This dish looks and sounds so good! I love that you’ve used a chicken substitute! I have to try this!
Thanks Shanika! I just made it again for meal prep this week and it’s soooo good! Let me know how it goes when you try it!

I rarely post reviews on recipes, but this one deserves a comment. Meal comes together in less than half an hour and is delicious! Pictures posted are exactly what the dish looks like. I had no pepper, so diagonally sliced about a cup of snap peas. This is a keeper and will satisfy both vegan and non-vegans. Definitely will be in regular rotation.
Lynn, thank you so much for sharing your experience with this recipe! It’s one of my absolute favorites! I don’t make it enough!
Thanks for an amazing recipe! I just made this for dinner. Smells so good and tastes even better. I’m going to have to try the fried rice the next time I make this dish.
