Review: NY Vegan Eats [Part 2]

Over the Easter weekend, my husband and I took a trip to Brooklyn, NY. Is it just me, or is eating plant-based WAY easier up there?! I’m always amazed at the many options that are available. I’ll be honest… the only reason I went was to eat. I went, knowing I had absolutely no business up there, but decided to go anyway. YOLO, right?!

Okay, so in this post I’ll be sharing what I ate. Here we go!

Next Level Burger

This place is AMAZING y’all! If you’re not familiar, it’s a completely plant-based restaurant with tons of options to choose from. This visit ended up being a tiny bit out of the way in regard to where we were, but I’m so glad I made the trip. I’ve been seeing it a lot on Instagram and knew I had to check it out. I ordered the All American Burger and it did not disappoint! It’s a “meat” patty topped with Smokey Tempeh Bacon, Cheddar (or Swiss Style Cheese) and vegan Mayo. As for fries, you can choose from baked or fried (cool, right?!). I ordered baked fries and they were still just as crispy and well seasoned as I’m sure the fried version was. See that drink in the back? Forgive me, but I can’t remember what it was! Some kind of lemonade. Whatever it was, it was super tasty and I drank every last drop!

Would you believe they also sell breakfast?! I didn’t know this, but next time I’m in the area I’ll be testing it out! As you can probably tell, I was super impressed with this place. The burger was delicious, the fries were delicious, and so was the drink. I left full as a tick and completely satisfied. The next time I’m in Brooklyn, I’ll definitely be back!

Champs Diner

It’s no secret, this isn’t my first trip to Champs, you may remember me talking about it in this post. The first time I went, I was impressed, but not super blown away. I knew I had to give it another shot so I decided to make another visit this go-around. One of my husband’s closest friends mentioned that he had been before and really enjoyed it. I knew that his buy-in would help to encourage the rest of the gang to give it a try 🙂 This time I ordered the Birthday Cake Pancakes and Tempeh wings.

Let’s start with the tempeh wings. SO GOOD! I’ll be honest, I was a little worried that they might not be. After all, this was my first time hearing about tempeh wings so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Y’all, I’m so glad I ordered them because they were amazing! I ordered a combination of buffalo and bbq wings and they came with a side of vegan ranch and your usual celery and carrots. Pretty much everyone at the table said they were good. Of course, I made sure they disappeared promptly after they arrived. They were so tasty!

Now for the pancakes. There’s really no way to go wrong here. Because I couldn’t choose between these and the “chicken” and waffles, I decided to find a happy medium by ordering a side of “chicken”. The best of both worlds! The pancakes were pretty big, so needless to say, I left happy and full 🙂 I think it’s safe to say that everyone else did too, which is great seeing as though I was sitting at a table full of carnivores. It’s always nice to have folks step into the vegan world with you, even if only for one meal. I’ll take what I can get!

Eat By Chloe

Eat Chloe

I’d been to Eat By Chloe during my last trip too, but never tried the desserts. Seeing as though it was a short walk from Vinnie’s Pizza, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try them out! I ordered a lemon cupcake (I pretty much love lemon anything) and a chocolate chip cookie. The cupcake was perfection! What I enjoyed most was that the icing was whipped, not a hard frosting like most places. The cake was perfectly soft and fresh. I ate every last bite!

As for the chocolate chip cookie, it was amazing! Somehow I forgot to take a picture of it, but it tasted as good as it looked. As I was trying to decide on what to order, I kept going back and forth between the cookie and the cupcake. I asked the cashier for his opinion on the cookie and he said they were good, but recommended waiting a few minutes for the fresh ones that were cooling in the kitchen. I had to wait for about 10 minutes, but it was certainly worth it. I had no intentions of ordering both, but then figured why not?! Well folks… no surprise here, but I’ll definitely be back. The cookie was the perfect texture and was amazing warm. Eat By Chloe doesn’t seem to disappoint!

Vinnie's Pizza

Vinnie’s Pizza is another one of those places in Brooklyn that I had been eying and admiring on social media for some time. This was actually one of my first meals after touching down in NY. My husband was trying to starve me y’all! I hadn’t eaten much of anything ALL DAY! Admittedly, these are probably some of the worst food photos I’ve ever taken. Worse than when I first started blogging. I was so hungry, it took everything in me to even consider pulling out my phone to take a picture. I was STARVING! Needless to say, these pizza slices disappeared in probably about 45 seconds. I took one bite and then the rest somehow vanished.

Cinnamon Snail

On the last fully day of our trip, we ended up in the city. Since we were so close, I decided to stop in and check out Cinnamon Snail. Everything on their Instagram page always looks amazing. I really wanted to try one of their sandwiches, but i had just eaten so I decided to just try one of their pastries. I got a raspberry lemon doughnut and I really enjoyed it! If their pastries are this good, I can only imagine how their food tastes! Needless to say, I’ll be making another stop here on my next trip 🙂

Seasoned Vegan

Seasoned Vegan

It’s been a while since I’ve made a trip to Harlem, but I didn’t have a choice because I HAD to check this place out! I found them on Instagram and everything looks SO legit! Sometimes you can even spot celebrities here! It’s a cute little spot on a corner in Harlem. I was most excited to try their mac and cheese. That’s one thing I’ve been struggling to get over since becoming plant based! I can’t lie, I miss it! I ordered the crawfish, greens, and mac and cheese. I’ll be honest, the crawfish wasn’t my favorite and I couldn’t even finish the greens (just not my favorite). The mac and cheese on the other hand was really good and I could have easily eaten another serving. Without a doubt the best vegan mac and cheese I’ve had to date. I don’t know what I was thinking when I ordered the crawfish, I’m not even sure if I’ve ever had real crawfish before going vegan. I will say, the texture did remind me of fish though. Of course I had to taste test my husband’s plate and his was pretty good! He got the “chicken” and pancakes with a side of hoe cakes. Not the best pancakes I’ve ever had, but I didn’t mind helping him clean his plate 🙂 Oh, and I can’t forget the appetizer! We ordered the nuggets and they were really good! Well seasoned and tasted great with the sauce. I can see why they’re so popular.

Would I return? Absolutely. Next time I’ll try another entree with double mac and cheese 🙂
