Preheat oven to 350°
In a small dish, combine the ground flaxseed meal with the water to make a flax egg. Set aside.

In a large bowl cream together the softened vegan butter and brown sugar. Beat on high for 2-3 minutes.
4 tbsp vegan butter, ½ cup organic brown sugar
Add dry ingredients to the bowl followed by the wet ingredients (including the flax egg from step 2).
½ tsp baking soda, ½ tsp baking powder, 1 pinch sea salt, ½ tsp vanilla extract, ¾ cups all- purpose flour, ¼ cup cocoa powder
Mix until well combined. If mixture is still crumbly, add optional unsweetened plant milk if needed to create a dough.
1 tbsp unsweetened almond milk
Once a dough has formed, fold the chocolate chips into the dough.
½ cup vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips
Use a cookie scoop to transfer the mixture to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then roll each scoop between the palm of your hands to smooth out into a ball (optional).
Transfer to the oven to bake for 12-14 minutes.
Once finished, remove the cookies from the oven and garnish with optional salt flakes. Enjoy!
