Busboys and Poets Review

While on a trip to D.C. I decided to dive into the vegan scene by experimenting with vegan options at a few different restaurants. When possible, I like to try and find places that both me and my husband can enjoy. You know, places that offer vegan friendly options and food for meat eaters as well. Busboys and Poets seemed to be a good option. Before even arriving, I knew I would probably like it because their online menu was super easy to navigate. It’s no fun to have to browse through each and every menu item looking for ones that are vegan friendly. If you’re vegetarian, gluten free, or vegan you can simply click on your preference and it shows you your options. Doesn’t get much easier than that! I’m always impressed with a place that has more to offer than a measly salad for vegans.

Though Busboys and Poets offered more than salad, the only real breakfast food they offered was a Vegan Egg Scramble or a Vegan Egg Wrap (as well as sides such as vegan bacon, sausage and home fries). It would have been cool if they offered something like pancakes, french toast or waffles. Not complaining, I’m just saying! Any who, I decided to go with the Vegan Egg Wrap. I’d never had a tofu scramble, but I must say, this was a great first experience. It amazes me how tofu is so versatile! The wrap included mixed veggies, vegan bacon, pico de gallo, vegan cheese and a side of home fries. It was so tasty! I’m looking forward to recreating this at home some day.

I would rate Busboys and Poets a 9 out of 10. I’ve deducted a point for the lack of options. Sometimes you just want a sweeter breakfast. The ambiance was super chill and was nicely decorated with prominent leaders from the black community. Would I return? Absolutely! I’d love to try out their lunch and dinner options.
